Does Regular Intake Of Prednisone Lead To Stomach Pain And Inflammation?
Recently went to the er for stomach pain. Was on prednisone for a month the doctor s said it probably inflamed my stomach. Can prednisone do this & why did it take so long to effect me. Now I am on carafate & constipated. Very worried it will cause a blockage
Dear patient Prednisone is steroidal anti inflammatory drug and has strong tendency for causing gastric Mucosal damage and gastritis. If you are not using proton pump inhibitor like pantocid with prednisone gastritis occurs early and if you were taking ppi gastritis may occur late. Some persons are also susceptible to early gastritis and some are not. That is the reason you got this problem late. Gastritis is fully treatable and prevantable. So do not worry and take treatment as prescription. All the best.
