Does Regular Use Of Cellcept Help Treat Myasthenia Gravis?

My husband has Myasthenia Gravis and is taking Prednisone, Cell Cept and Mestinon after a crisis he had in August 2014 that put him in ICU where they determined he had the desease and treat with immunoglobulin treatments.....two months ago his neurologist who replaced his original neurologist left the area discontinued his use of the cell cept....he was doing really well until about a month ago, one month after stopping the cell cept and is now having issues with his vision, right eye lid will not open and he is having blurred and double vision, AGAIN...His neurologist told him to start taking the cell cept again about 4 days ago and he is not seeing any improvemenmt. will this episode with his eyes pass? How long will it take for the cell cept to kick back in? His original NEurologist told him he would be on cell cent for along time....should he have stayed on it?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello

The myasthenia gravis is an auto immune disorder manifesting various symptoms affecting eyes and other body systems. The Cellcept is Mycophenolet mofetil used as an immune modulator in acute crisis condition of myasthenia gravis and is not a long term use drug for this condition. The disease remains under control with regular use of an AChE inhibitors as Pyridostigmine and is not curable.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
