Does Replacing Citalopram With Duloxetine Cause Blisters On Hand?

I am looking for a second opinion I started a new medication on Saturday. Duloxetine 60mg cap X 1 daily (Replacing Citalopram 40mg tab X 1 daily) Sunday night I had a couple small blisters on my right wrist. While I have been exposed to Poison Ivy in the past I have never had any symptoms. I thought this might be what it was. Monday it was far worse, Tuesday even worse. Tuesday night I saw that it could also be the side effects of the Duloxetine. I went to my PCP today. I have been put back on Citalopram till the rash and blisters heal. Then they want me to try the Duloxetine again to see if it causes the same effect as what I have now. I am a bit concerned. Is there any way to know how likely it is that it was or was not the Duloxetine?

Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of an allergic reaction related to duloxetine. For this reason, I would recommend avoiding this drug in the future. You should discuss with your doctor on this issue.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
