Does Slightly Enlarged Left Ventricle Require Medication For Healing?
I have been advised I have a slightly enlarged left ventrical. I have stopped smoking and no longer drink alcohol. I am also on a healthy diet and exercising. Can I do anything else. Do I need medication. I have no chest pains or other symptoms. I am 70yrs old and am not on any medication
It is good you are doing these healthy changes like quitting smoking and alcohol and you are having a healthy diet and exercising. On the other hand it is important to check for reasons for the enlarged ventricle so you will need to know from the heart ultrasound if there is a stenosis (narrowing) of the aortic valve and also rule out high blood pressure.
If the blood pressure is good and the aortic valve in the heart ultrasound is normal then there is nothing to worry. Just go on with the healthy lifestyle changes you are doing. Be cautious to not exercise a lot, don't overdo it because heavy exercise might cause the left ventricle to get enlarged due to muscular overload and hypertrophy (as it happens with every muscle we overuse) to handle the needs of the body for oxygen.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
