Does Smoking Marijuana Affect General Anesthesia During An Abortion?

Hello, I m having an abortion on Friday and I was told not to have any street drugs 24 hours before the procedure considering I m going under Anastasia but I haven t decided on local or deep sedation but I m going to chose the one that puts me deepest in sleep considering I m terrified of waking up. Anyway, will smoking marijuana 24 hours before the procedure hurt me or cause complications?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Smoking Marijuana will affect anesthesia clearance particularly that of Ketamine and midazolam. I do not recommend the consumption of the same during pre operative period and if you want to do so, kindly discuss with your anesthetic before he or she is inducing anesthesia for the procedure.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
