Does Spinal Disc Herniation Cause Erectile Dysfunction?

I was rear-ended in a car accident 6 months ago. The person who hit me was on their phone and didn t even slow down. I was at a complete stop when the vehicle rear-ended me going approximately 55mph. The doctor said I have a herniated disk between the L4-L5 and L5-S1 that are hitting nerves. Since the accident I have not been able to have an errection at all. Could the erectile issues be caused by the herniated disks and what can I do to resolve the issue?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Herniated disc may compress your nerves and can cause erectile dysfunction. Consult a neurosurgeon and get an MRI scan done. He will explain you about the various treatment options.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Shinas Hussain
