Does Switching From Niaspan To Niacin Cause Liver Damage?

hi, i am switching from niaspan to niacin and have read there is a possibility of severe liver damage by switching but after talking to my doctor they said that is wrong and there isnt a chance. i am just a little conderned and would love some other feedback
