Does Swollen Outer Hip Indicate Trochanteric Bursitis?

Hi.
I fell on the ice while playing ice hockey on Saturday, and have been experiencing a rather constant pain and decreased mobility ever since. Today I feel slightly better, but a good portion of my outer hip is still swollen. I have done some preliminary medical research online and sort of figured out that what I am experiencing quite probably is trochanteric bursitis. Does this sound plausible?
Should I schedule for an appointment with my local GP, or is this something that will go away with rest in a matter of days? Or are there other self-treatments I should try?
