Does Taking Albuterol Cause Elevation In The Sugar Levels?
I am a diabetic (type 2) and I also have asthma (I was diagnosed when I was 8) lately Spring has caused my asthma to go crazy. And 2 weeks ago I went to Urgent care over it. I was given nebulizer treatments as well as albuteral solution to take with my nebulizer Now my sugar is 430! It hasn t been that high ever. Is the albutrual effecting my sugar levels?
Hello there, Albuterol causes your adrenergic hormone levels to rise which counters the effect of insulin. So it may lead to high sugar levels. But this is a temporary occurrence. Once the albuterol leaves your system your sugar levels will normalise. In the mean time follow the principles of managing sugar levels. Small frequent high fiber meals and exercise for half an hour everyday. If after 2 weeks still your sugar levels are not down then we can discuss further treatment options,
Hope this helps, Please feel free to address any further queries to me,
