Does Taking Cetirizine And Guaifenesin At The Same Time Work Against Each Other And Should The Phlegm Be Spitted Out?

My wife is a nurse and assures me I don't have strep but I have had a cold for 5 days. Not severe but I do want to knock it quickly. Are certirizine and guaifenesin working against each other if I take both? There is a lot of phlegm I building up in throat. Also should I cough it up into a cup if possible instead of swallowing it all?. Yeah gross question.

Hi and thanks for the query,
Cetirizine and guaifenesin do not work against each other.
You can cough up the phlegm or swallow it. It does not matter at all. Even if you swallow it there is no harm since the organisms get deactivated by the stomach acid.
regards,
Dr Kishori.
