Does Taking Epilim Without Food Cause Nausea?

Hi, I forgot to take my dose of Epilim with my dinner, and only remembered 2 hours later. I took it with a glass of water, not with any food. That was 1.5 hours ago. I haven t felt any nausea yet, but will I start to feel sick because I forgot to take the Epilim with food?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Epilim is composed of 'sodium valproate', which is used to treat primarily epilepsy and bipolar disorder.

Common side effects of its intake include nausea, vomiting, sleepiness, and a dry mouth. Mostly these are mild and short-lived.

It is recommended to swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water or other liquid or take them with food.

Kindly take the medication as prescribed by your doctor. In case you notice nausea more often and becomes bothersome, you need to seek medical attention promptly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
