Does Taking Hydrocodone And Acetaminophen Together Cause Fatigue And Rashes?

The VA has me taking The following meds. Hydrocodone with Acetaminophen 10/325 Tizanidine 4mg Ambien 10 mg Amitriptyline 10 mg Symvistatin All of these things I’ve been taking for a few years!! I’m developing fatigue and dry itching skins and rashes! All the research I’ve done say this could be a liver problem! I’ve started to wean myself off these meds, what else should I do? Are these rashes, dry skin and fatigue something I should be seriously concerned about?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There are a few possible causes of the symptoms you are mentioning.

1- thyroid can cause fatigue and dry skin. Having a TSH checked just to be sure is a good idea.
2. Anemia can also cause dry skin and fatigue so please have a CBC test to rule it out.
3- Medications can also cause these symptoms and especially the rash is very common if we develop allergy from the medications.

On the other hand, some on the medications you are having are medications that you need to use long term (Symvastatine) and some will cause you problems if you stop them abruptly (Amitryptilin) so it would be good for you to discuss it with your doctor before you do any changes in the medications you are using. The doctor might choose to stop them one by one and substitute them with others but this needs careful monitoring.

I hope this is helpful and answers to your question but please feel free to let me know if any questions related to this.

Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, MD
