Does Taking Metroprolol Lead To Stomach Pain, dizziness And Puffiness Of Face?

I have been having black out spells at work and not remembering what I did. This morning I got up and the back burner of my stove was on and the fan on my microwave was on high. I live alone so I m the only one that could have done that. I think I m having side effects of Metoprolol and want to get off of it. I take 12.5 in the morning and night for about 8 years. I have been stomach pains and feeling very tired and not sleeping at night. Also the left side of my face puffed up last week. How do I get off of it? I had a heart attack and 2 stents 9 years ago and have been taking it more for arrthymia than blood pressure.

You need to talk to your cardiologist right away. This might be side effects from metoprolol, but since you have a history of heart disease, I would be much more concerned that you have developed a very serious arrhythmia that could be life-threatening. Drugs like metoprolol can sometimes cause a blockage in the electrical pulses that make the heart beat, which could then result in a stopping of the beat for a few seconds, which can then cause blackouts. You don't say what kind of arrhythmia you are taking the drug for, but it's possible you have developed another type of arrhythmia. Call your cardiologist now. If you can't get a hold of him/her quickly, go to emergency and have an EKG done. This could detect abnormalities related to development of an intermittent arrhythmia. They could also discuss if it's necessary to take you off the metoprolol, which must be done very carefully. Hope this helps.
