Does Taking Provera Help In Stopping Heavy Periods?

I am 51 and have been having very heavy bleeding this past month. 16 days....stopped for 12......now day 4, after not having one for 2 months. Cramping, VERY heavy bleeding, harder than I've ever bled, and my Dr. prescribed PROVERA 10 mg for 14 days. Will this stop my heavy flow? In the mean time, she is scheduling an ultra sound to see what the problem is. I have heard of Novasure...do you recommend this? Thank you
