Hi doctor, i am 25 years old , married last year, i had irregular periods, few months after marriage i didn t get my periods for 2 months, i thought that i was pregnant, but i was not, my doctor found that i have TSH 150, she suggested me thyronorm 150 mcg , after a few days of dosage my thyroid became normal, and she suggested me to lower the dosage to 100 mcg, now i am taking the medicine for more than 6 months, my TSH is normal now,but i am not getting my periods, should i stop the medicine ????

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
The best way to manage irregular periods is to treat the cause.Thyroid disorders like hypothyroidism happen to be some of the hormonal causes of irregular periods.Reason for which your Doctor placed you on Thyronorm.Thyronorm if over dosed may however have as side effects menstrual irregularities/impaired fertility.
I will suggest you see your Doctor again to reduce the dose of the drug.Doses of 100-200 mcg may be given for full thyroxine replacement therapy. You however still have a functional thyroid and will require a much more smaller doses like 25 to 50mcg
Just discuss this with your Doctor.
Hope this will help
Best regards
