Does Taking Valaciclovir For A Prolonged Period Cause Any Side Effects?

i have been taking valacyclovir 1gr daily. i was diagnosed with herpes 4 months ago and my doctor suggested i use daily if i remain sexually active. will taking valacyclovir daily be harmful? i have never had any leisons,etc.i am 75 and have had several kidney stones. i do take allopurinal daily. thank you

Hello there I have read through your question and would like to tell you that apart from the immediate side-effects of valacyclovir like nausea, vomitting and diarrhoea there are some long term side-effects as well. These are liver and kidney dysfunction. Long term use of valacyclovir can cause renal and liver toxicity.
