Does Taking Antibiotic Cause White Vaginal Discharge?
Hello , I would like to know What causes a rubbery / solid white discharge ? I ve read online that it could be caused by antibiotics , for the pass three months Ive took them for about a week every month as placch continued to come back in my throat . We found out that I had strep throat and now I m taking the right antibiotic . Could it be caused by that ? What should I do ? I noticed this kind of dischatge two days ago and last night i decided to take it all out by pushing and massaging the outer part of my I vagina allowing for it to all come out ( I hope all ). I haven t been sexually active for about a week now but a couple of days a go my boyfriends had notices irritation on his genital part ..
Yes, antibiotics can cause fungal infection of vagina (candidiasis). Antibiotics are used to kill off harmful bacteria in the body. But they can also destroy beneficial bacteria in the process, which may lead to a fungal infection. A vaginal fungal infection may develop during or after the use of antibiotics taken to treat other conditions such as strep throat.
I advise you to take anti-fungal (nystatin or miconazole) cream which needs to be applied inside the vagina or oral anti-fungal fluconazole single dose every seven days until you finish the antibiotics. This should help to prevent an overgrowth of yeast while taking antibiotics. Beside I recommend to take probiotic supplement containing Lactobacillus or yogurt to replenish good or beneficial bacteria. Wearing cotton underwear might help reduce the chances of getting a fungal infection.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
