Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
I think you are mentioning about
Emergency Contraceptive pill as "em" in your query.
Most of the Emergency contraceptive pill should be taken after
unprotected intercourse as soon as possible or at least with in 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.
Only very few Emergency contraceptive pill taken after 72 hours but within 5 days gives protection against unprotected intercourse followed by conception.
But they are very rarely available in Over The Counter.
Another option is Insertion of Post coital coil - It is a type of
IntraUterine Device. It also should be inserted with in 5 days.
Any way If you have taken Emergency Contraceptive pill after 72 hours of unprotected intercourse, then you have to either use the above said Post coital IUD or wait for menstrual period.
If it does not arrive within a couple of days of the expected time, then you must consult your treating Gynecologist for further management and follow up.
Drink plenty of water.
In future, Either use
barrier methods like Condoms or Emergency contraceptive pills with in 72 hours of last intercourse.
Hope this helps.
Please write back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
