Does Taking Is Prenatal Vitamins And Iron Pills Cause Stuttering And Acid Reflux?

Hi, I have been having problems with my speech, for instance I noticed that I stutter often or trip over my words. Also, I feel as though my tongue is heavy as well as dry, from mostly the back of my tongue. I don t choose the healthiest foods, & drink a large ice cappuccino (a really cold caffeinated beverage) almost every day, and noticed that it makes my tongue feel heavy as well, so I often find myself exercising my tongue, to help relax it from feeling so heavy and stiff. I noticed that this all started after the birth of my daughter, who is now 7 months. The only medication I m taking is prenatal vitamins and iron pills. I wanted to know what I can do in order for this symptom to go away, because it is effecting my speech. I also noticed that I may have acid reflux because when I eat certain acidy foods, my stomach gets bloated and I wake up with an extremely dry mouth and tongue, which makes it really easy for me to trip over my words. Can you please help with a treatment plan & if there are any concerns I might be overlooking. Thank you

Hi,

Your feeding habits may be one of the major causes of your problems. Lot of caffeinated beverages and unhealthy food may result in acid reflux. Very cold or hot beverages continuously for a long time may cause damage to the tissue of tongue, throat and even esophagus, which in turn may result in irritability and a feeling of heaviness as well as dryness of throat and stuttering of speech also. Also, if you are not pregnant or do not intend to be pregnant, use of prenatal vitamins may cause more harms than benefits due to more amount of nutrients than required normally.

Iron pills, particularly containing ferrous sulfate may cause irritation as well as bruising of esophagus or stomach, thus resulting in symptoms of heart burn or acid reflux etc. You are advised to consult your doctor regarding your need for supplements of vitamins or iron etc., and needed doses for you. If the symptoms are not resolved, then you may need further work up in consultation with your doctor. Get yourself tested for diabetes etc., and further evaluation by throat examination, laparoscopy or even upper gastro-intestinal endoscopy may be advised.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
