Does Tanning Help In Curing Lichen Planus?

Hi. I have been diagnosed with lichen planus back in 1993 after a severe trauma. It flared up in 1996 and seems to have reappeared. Cortisone cream and oral medication for itch are not going anything anymore. I have read that tanning can help. Any accuracy to that claim?

Many thanks.

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
No tanning does not help in preventing or treating Lichen Planus. Infact there is a variant of Lichen Planus known as actinic Lichen Planus that develops due to sun exposure.
If topical creams alone are not helping you out, you may consult your dermatologist to start you on oral medications for same for better control.
Hope this helped.
