Does Teratospermia Lead To Missed Abortion?

Dear, I have question about teratospermia. Whether it cause missed abortion. My wife had two missed abortions last year. Both pregnancies were achieved on natural way. In semen analysis I had just 36% normal form of sperms. Is that just problem for conceive or it can cause missed abortion? I analysed and karyotype of peripheral blood cells and result is normal male karyotype. Thanks. Regards

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Teratospermia is a condition characterized by the presence of abnormal morphology sperms with that affects fertility in males.
Habits like smoking and varicocele are often associated with decreased normal forms (morphology).
Presence of abnormally-shaped sperm can negatively affect fertility by preventing its transport through the cervix and/or preventing sperm from adhering to the ovum. Hence, achieving a pregnancy may be difficult.
However, it may not be the cause that could be directly attributed to missed abortion.
Causes for missed abortion include:
1. anembryonic gestation (blighted ovum)
2. fetal chromosomal abnormalities
3. maternal diseases
4. embryonic anomalies
5. placental abnormalities
6. uterine anomalies
Hence, the above mentioned causes should be investigated and treated accordingly.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
