Does Testicular Pain Due To Urinary Infection Need Antibiotics?
My 14 year old son was just seen at Patient First for testicular pain on right side with some right flank pain (this second time-first time they said he had epididymitis and sent him home on antibiotic)..this time they gave me his urine results and he has WBC-<5 RBC-2-5 Mucus-Moderate, other sperm present. So they said he has to have CT scan to check for kidney stones and said he has to see a urologist..my question is this, shouldnt they have given him something for infection and/or pain? they sent him out the door with nothing...
Hi, His infection does not seem to be much. He deserves an Ultrasound or CT Scan to know whats happening and whether there is any stone disease or Vesico-ureteric reflux? That would be better. If any antibiotic therapy has to be started then it should be done after a Urine Culture report proves an infection and guides as to what antibiotic should be used. So, do not worry. The treatment is on the right lines and you should wait for the CT Scan report to initiate the treatment and yes, a Urologist would be the best person to treat this condition. Take care, Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
