Does The Acute Pancreatitis Affect The Other Organs?

Dear Dr. Kalyan Bose,

I am a 53 year old mother of two. I had a pancreatitic attack on 10th
May 2010, the first time since my gallbladder was removed in July
2003. Although I was in a clinic from 10 â?? 31 May 2010 ( where they
gave me Pathidine 100 mg, Omenix 40 mg, Inj. Rolac 30 mg, Inj.
Fidaplex, Inj. Emixtal, etc.) I was not given any water or food by
mouth till the 15 May. From the 16 May, I gradually started taking
water, coconut water, chicken soup, and soft rice.

The following day the pain returned with temperature (101.8 Fo) and
occasional vomit. Water and food was stopped by mouth and antibiotic
and anti vomit, was started by i.v. again. As the temperature kept on
returning ( 99.4 F) every evening my antibiotic was changed to Inj.
Meropenam 500 mg i.v. at 8 hourly.

On 31 May when the last of the 21 injection of Meropenam 500 mg was completed I was released from the hospital with â??stable Haemodynamic condition.â??

Since then I am slowly regaining my appetite and is on a â??no fatâ?? &
â??no oil dietâ??. I have no pain in my abdomen or any discomfort except
feeling weak and exhausted.

As I was diagnosed a case of Mild / Acute Pancreatitis I feel that an expert opinion of the present state of my pancreas and the condition of my other organs are, in view of the recent Pancreatitis attack.

I will be in Kolkata in the evening of Sunday 11th July 2010 and shall
be very thankful if you could kindly give me an appointment to see you
on Monday 12 July at a time convenient to you.

Thanking you.
Mrs. Farhana J. Haque.

there are many cause for acute pancreatitis the top most are Gallstone , alcohol intake , Pancreatic abnormality , Hyper calcemia , Hyper triglyceridemia , Drugs , Toxins etc
upto 25 to 30 % of case cause is not known and is called idiopathic .
u have has moderate attack of pancreatitis and the good thing is u have recovered well .
there is better prognosis in mild to moderate Panc compare to sever where Prognosis is not good . and Multiple organs dysfunction can occurs in severe case .
in short u shoud not be worried as u have been discharged safe and sound;
