Does The Cough Drops Behind The Front Teeth Causes Swelling?

I was sick and using cough drops for a few days, I noticed that i was keeping the cough drop behing my two front teeth mostly and it started to swell, now i have quit using cough drops but the swelling has spread around behing all four of my front teeth. It is really painful and I am starting to get worried, do I need to go to a dentist? I do not have insurance or ehough money for a hefty bill, so Going will be a last resort.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain cough drops contains certain irritant agents like Menthol which can although soothe the throat but if it is kept in continuous contact with the oral mucosa it can cause irritation of mucosa and swelling and in can if there are some infectious deposits over the teeth and gums, it can lead to further inflammation and swelling can become more severe..

Nothing to worry consult an oral physician and get evaluated and in case of inflammation Scaling of the teeth followed by antibiotics and painkillers can help..

As of now do warm saline gargles and take METRONIDAZOLE 400 mg thrice a day and anti-inflammatory painkiller like IBUPROFEN 400 mg thrice a day and local application of a gum paint can help..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
