Hi. I m approaching 40, and have always had very regular periods. I ve been on and off birth control pills for more than 20 years. After my third son, 19 months ago, I started back up with the pill, but it was interfering with my milk production, so, I have been off the pill for almost a year. Up until March, I have been every 28 days with 4 to 5 days of normal bleeding. At the end of March, I started my period and it hasn t stopped. I convinced myself the bleeding was because I was pre-menopausal, but in May, I finally went to my gynecologist. I had an endometrial biopsy which he said was suggestive of polyps and out me back on the pill which he said should stop the bleeding. It didn t. I requested a CBC, which showed I was anemic, but the office never called me to discuss an iron supplement, or the results (the lab s report was posted to my patient portal so that is how I found out). I went back in June, and he said it my be a cervical polyp . I requested a pap test since it has been more than two years (I tested hpv negative, so he didn t feel it was necessary, but I wanted to be sure). So now he wants me to have a d & c with hysterscopy to find the polyp. I have not received my pap results and it s been more than 2 weeks. The bleeding is getting heavier day by day, and I m exhausted. I have back and abdominal pain more often than not. Now I am passing large clots and what appears to be tissue. None of this is normal for me, but my doctor doesn t seem concerned at all. I feel like a d & c is a temporary solution. Should I have my hormone levels checked? And, should I seek a second opinion? Thank you in advance.
