Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 59 year old female, post menopausal planning to undergo a total thyroidectomy in late June. Had a needle biopsy a few months ago and one of the nodules showed a Bethesda 2 pathology. I have been advised to remove the thyroid. I have had hypothyroidism for many years with a multinodular thyroid and goiter. Was on Synthroid in the past but have not been on it for a number of years now. In the last few years had some weight gain of 10 to15 lbs. However, I do not want to gain anymore weight and would like to know what is the best way to maintain current weight after this procedure. And, does everyone experience a large weight gain after this procedure? What I have been reading about weight gain post TT is frightening.
HI Well come to HCM I really appreciate your concern, this is not true practically that after removing the thyroid gland weight increases, if you are over weight then you need to cut down the calorie contained diet practice some exercise, yoga, meditation, these would controlled the weight, take care.
