Does Urticaria Cause Frequent Swellings In Face And Throat?

I have angio-enema/urticaria and have been taking prednisone as needed for swelling. However, the swellings in my face, eyes, lips, jaws, tongue and throat are becoming more frequent. I only take prednisone when I absolutely have to. When my tongue and/or throat starts to swell. With angio-edema, is this normal? I've had this for approx. 10+ years and I am now 66 years young.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC ..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your query or seems like you have allergic reaction to some known or unknown allergen and the symptoms of Angioedema of eye, face, jaw, lips etc and swollen tongue and throat also seems to be due to it..
I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can advise you allergy testing like RAST test, Patch test, and food challenge test..
Once the allergen is ruled out preventing exposure to allergen can help..
You can also be instilled with Immunotherapy as it will help in reducing the severity of allergic reaction..
As of now you can take anti-allergics like Benadryl or Allegra along with Prednisolone..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
