Does Usage Of Olive Oil Drops Help In Curing Clogged Ear Drums?

A few days ago I tried cleaning out my ear, so I used a cotton bud, when I did it I felt a pain, and then my ear suddenly clogged up as if I pushed the ear wax back and now it s all muffled when I try listening to sounds out of that ear and it s ringing. My mum s suggested drops slightly warm olive oil twice a day in that ear? Is it safe to do ?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if you felt pain while cleaning the ear and then the hearing got muffled and even you have ringing in ear there is a possibility that you have ruptured the eardrum while it is also possible that you have pushed wax deep in ear along with perforation..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a clinical examination and investigations like Otoscopic examination can help in ruling out the exact cause and treatment can be done accordingly..
Putting olive oil is at times done when there is no injury buy as you have many other symptoms like ringing etc you should avoid putting anything inside ear..
The Physician can advise you wax removal if it is the only cause bit in case if there is perforation antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller and Oral and nasal decongestant can be advised..
In case of there is a large perforation surgical repair also known as Tympanoplasty can be done.
