Does Using CPAP Machine Cause Flare Up Of Trigeminal Neuralgia?

I ve been diagnosed for 2.5 with bilateral trigeminal neuralgia. A month ago, I was also diagnosed with sleep apnea. I started using the full face cpap mask machine 5 days ago and my TN has flared up. Could the mask or the machine be the cause of this flare up?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Trigeminal Neuralgia is always associated with trigger points that can be different in different patients.

It is possible that the mask you are using for the CPAP machine for sleep apnea is constantly touching your trigger points of Trigeminal Neuralgia causing episodes of recurrent sharp, shooting pains.

I would advise you to visit an ENT specialist and go for other options for sleep apnea than CPAP machine. You can also consult a neurologist if doses of the medicines you are taking require change or you need to go for invasive method to treat the neuralgia.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
