Does Using Excessive Deodorant Cause Dark Flat Blotches Under Armpit?

I have dark flat blotches under my right armpit. I have been using a spray deodorant and sprayed on quite a lot as the coldness helped a pain I was having in my shoulder. Do you think the discolouration could be due to this, or is it something more serious?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

First, I need to have a look at the discoloration myself.

Applying oily deodorants, and shaving can cause darkening of the skin. Some deodorants contain sodium bicarbonate, which can cause discoloration of the skin if applied over time.

Changing deodorant, and choosing other methods for depilation can help reverse the discoloration. So, give it time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
