Does Walking Boot Help In Treatment Of An Ankle Sprain?

I sprained my ankle 7 weeks ago, have been wearing a walking boot for 6 weeks, with instructions to always wear if walking and to not walk unless necessary. The pain subsided while wearing the boot at first, however , since the injury I have experienced discomfort at night while sleeping ( well trying to sleep) and anytime even when elevating the foot. There does not seem to be a comfortable position to lay or elevate and I am comstanly moving positions in search of relief. There is now a a numbness, and hot and cold feeling that moves around my foot and going up my leg. Is the walking boot really going to repair this?
