Does Weather Change Affect Trigeminal Neuralgia And TMJ?
Hi at the moment I am suffering with trigeminal neuralagia and also have bee diagnosed with TMJ, and Ive been fine all summer but this past two weeks its been very bad does the weather tyemperatures affect it and would warmer climates help. I am worried it could be a tumour and I am waiting almost two years on an M.R.I. scan
As per your query it is true that the bouts of pain in trigeminal neuralgia are triggered by cold weather as when the affected side of face gets exposed to cold air it can cause irritation to the nerve.
The cold air can lead to irritation of the nerve leading to the episode of pain caused by trigeminal neuralgia.
It is advisable that you should keep the affected side covered with a scarf during the cold weather especially while going out.
Avoid sitting in a direct splash of cold air on face.
Always keep some warm pack like a woollen scarf or a small electric gel heat pad to apply on face gently if you have a bout of pain.
Take the medicines on time to avoid or reduce the intensity of pain episodes.
Hope your query is solved..
