Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
In 2002 I had an Endoscopy done because of frequent heartburn. The doctor said that I had GERD and that my LES was Lax. I was told to take prilocet which I did for a few years. My heartburn/symptoms stopped when I quit using tobacco and I have rarely had any heartburn in years. I stopped taking the prilocet 10 years ago. Again, I have rarely had any digestive issues. However, I have been feeling a pain in my chest (just right of my breast bone) and am having a sensation of my throat being full when I swallow. I am concerned that by my not taking the medicine, I have somehow damaged my esophagus. My mother did die from Esophageal cancer at the age of 58. I am 42, female, no alcohol or tobacco use. Could I have put myself at risk by stopping the medicine?
Hello dear Greetings Regarding your symptoms of fullness with small meal following stoppage of prilocet prescribed for your GERD episode with a family history of esophageal cancer I am suggesting possibility of differential diagnosis
Oesophageal cancer Achalasia cardia Oesophageal stenosis due to aortic knuckle
In view of this please check your blood pressure and do the following test Chest x-ray Barium swallow and follow through
Moreover please visit a gastroenterologist specialist with the results and for expect clinical assessment and adequate drug prescription
I hope this helps Regards
