Dog Bite, Had Taken Treatment From Traditional Healer, Not Taken Anti-rabies Shot. Chances Of Rabies?

I was bitten by a dog when I was 5 or 6, now I m 14. I was bitten in the right leg. I was taken to a traditional healer, not a medical doctor. The wound was cured, but I was not shot by anti- rabies . The dog that bit me lived for 5 months or so after the bite, before it was sold. I am okay now, but do I have rabies? Did I ever had one?

Hi and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your question...

You don't have rabies and you never had rabies before. If the dog which had bitten you was alive and well for 5 months after the bite, then it didn't have rabies when it bit you and so, you could not have contracted the infection. Moreover, untreated rabies is a 100% fatal disease and so it is not possible that you have had it before also. Please be assured that you don't have to worry at all about the dog bit at the age of 5. In the future, if you are bitten by a dog (hope this shouldn't happen) please go to a doctor for vaccination.

Wish you all the best.

Hi
You did NOT have rabies before - No survivors / 100% death
Also a rabid dog could not have survived that long
The longest incubation period is long past - you will not get now

Rabies is a preventable disease / there is no cure
Be careful in the future - avoid dog bite / if bitten, take prompt and proved treatment

Good luck
