Dog Vaccinated. Can I Wait To Get The Anti Rabies Vaccine?
my dog (vaccinated) bit a delivery man on his thigh last sunday, we went to a government hospital specializing in the treatment for dog bites and anti rabies vaccine . however the service is closed til wednesday but the attending nurse said the shots could wait til then (or can be given within 7 days if the bite is below the waist area). can you give me a re-assurance if the man shall be ok if he gets the shots until tomorrow when the clinic opens. I saw him reporting for work yesterday. thanks!

Hello,
First dose of Rabies vaccination should be always given as soon as possible. This should be followed more strictly if you are from a rabies endemic area. Almost 90% of the world has rabies presence.
It should be given for every time a canine animal bites even vaccinated ones.
If there are bite marks and blood, he will be needing rabies immunoglobulin around the site of bite.
Above waist bite is of high risk than below waist but both should be considered same and treated as soon as possible
You should get your dog to vet, he may suggest repeat immunization
