Pain while performing root canal treatment is due to the extirpation of infected pulp which is vital.

Usually pain lasts until the procedure has completed.

Take amoxycillin and analgesics tablets.

Take rest and avoid anxiety.

Maintain oral hygiene well.

Hope that you are feeling better now than before.For your kind information, root canal treatment is not a painful procedure.You feel a little bit pain of needle prick when local anesthesia is introduced you first before r.c.t starts.The dentist then clinically check out the area whether you feel any pain or not.You can feel little pressure during rct but not feel any pain.If you feel severe pain while doing rct then dentist immediately stop the procedure and advice to patient for doing treatment under conscious sedation. It is impossible to comment without viewing any patient clinically.If you still facing the same problem you need to consult with your dentist immediately.

If you didn't get an appointment you can also consult with an emergency service providing dentist.

welcome in the forum. Sometimes while giving local anesthetic injection the needle touches or mildly pricks the nerve itself, instead of pouring the LA solution near the nerve. This is not the fault of dentist, because the nerve block is a blind procedure, where the dentist can not see the nerve. If the needle touches the nerve, the patient will feel an electric shock like severe pain in jaw and tongue, that you have felt. But it should give you a perfect anesthesia. i do not understand why your dentist injected twice. Next if the tissue inside your tooth( dental pulp) is highly inflammed then even after anesthesia you will feel pain while the dentist cleaning inside the tooth. The same thing happened to you. Your dentist should try to give you a direct pressure injection inside your pulp, which generally reduces pain or he should put a medicine( pulp devitalizer) and keep it for three days. Which will kill the remaining vital tissue in the pulp and you not feel pain in next sitting. I really do not know what your dentist was trying with three hours.There is no connection between your tooth and your ear. Your ear pop is probably because you were holding your breath tightly with fear. Antibiotics will not help much in this condition until you have a painful tooth before RCT procedure. Use Aceclofenac + Paracetamol combination twice daily in full stomach for 3 days. And ask your dentist to DEVITALIZE your tooth pulp before further procedure. Hope this will solve your problem.

I would like to tell you that pulp in tooth is a very peculiar tissue.
Sometimes it does not even get anaesthetize and as per your details, it seems that your pulp is hypersensitive, so don't worry.
As your tooth had infected pulp but it was vital so you had pain while debridement of canals.
This pain will go of in 1-2 days, you can take pain killer for relief.

The root canal treatment is one of the very painful process which a dentist do.
The pain of the jaw persists few weeks after procedure is done !!
I would rather advice you to increase the dose of pain killers or change it to different group of painkiller, with due consultation from your dentist.
