Done Thyroidectomy, Radiotherapy. Painful And Hard Lymph Nodes. Ultrasound Showed No Enlargement. Any Idea?
Question about painful lymph nodes. Complete thyroidectomy for papillary CA in Feb 2013 followed by radioactive iodine. CA had spread to nodes. Scan following iodine treatment showed some radioactivity remaining in nodes. Now nodes are painful and hard. Ultrasound last week showed no enlargement and "No evidence of CA in any of the lymph nodes." Still waiting on Tg level. Any ideas as to what could cause the painful lymph nodes?
Pain could be due to the tumor in the lymphnodes undergoing necrosis.Ultrasound cannot tell about evidence of CA.Are you taking high dose Thyroxine tablets?I would recommend undergoing removal of all the lymph nodes-lymphadenectomy by en-bloc dissection
