Dry Cough And Tickling In Throat. Taking Mucinex. Suggest Medication For Permanent Cure

I have had a cold the last 7 days. I have a dry cough and tickling in my throat. Occasionally I have productive coughs and suffer from nasal congestion. My mucus is thick, and ranges from clear to lime green in color. I do not have a fever but feel run down and tired. I am currently taking Mucinex DM and do not think it is working.

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
I would come up with these possibilities for dry cough, sore throat, congestion , mucus, these includes .
1 Asthmatic allergic bronchitis, diagnosis can be confirmed by clinical as well symptomatic history .In this disease usually there develops cough ( dry in the beginning ), running nose , whistling sound during breathing, breathlessness.
All these symptoms are due to bronchoconstiction .
2 Strep throat , diagnosis can be confirmed by swab from the throat.
3 Bronchiectasis , diagnosis can be confirmed by X ray chest and physical as well clinical examination.
In my opinion consult a physician and get his opinion.
Good luck. Dr. HET
