During Pregnancy, What Are The Chances Of Toxoplasma Bacteria Entering The Baby?
Hi Dr Samuel, A quesiton regarding Toxoplasa. My wife has contracted toxoplasma in the gestation period. We did find that when she was 12 weeks. Her first results were IgM 1.9 and IgG 8.4 The doctor suspected that it might be recent infection. and it came true. After 17 days taking spyrimacin and staying for 3 days without taking it, we did the blood test again and it came IgM 1.92 and IgG 631. So the doctor sugested she take another 2 weeks spyrimacin and do the test again, which we did. the result for the 3-rd time were: IgG 1.4 and IgM 3354. After seeing the doctor the last time, she sugested another round of 2 weeks spyrimacin. Actually she is close to the 19 weeks and she will carry an amniocentesis. Do u think she is still in danger of passing the bacteria to the baby, or after this round of spyrimacin, it is fine now bcs the bacteria is not active anymore and we dont need to worry if amniocentesis comes fine? How long does the toxoplasma bacteria can be active in the body? Also have u seen the IgG number as high as this one of 3354? thanks a lot
Hello dear, toxoplasmosis can affect your baby anytime during pregnancy but effect is milder as the pregnancy advances being maximum in first 3 months. I think amniocentesis and a 4D ultrasound needs to be done for assessing the wellbeing of your baby. Take care and all the best.
