Ecogenic Intracardiac Focus On The Right Ventricle Of My Baby.

hi, I AM 20 weeks pregnant and have detected ecogenic intracardiac focus on the right ventricle of my baby. my age is 28yrs and no family history of having abnormal child. should I go for amniocentesis or not. I am worried and not able decide what to do ? Would you please help me out ?

Welcometo hcm. Echogenic intracardiac focus (EIF) is a small bright spot seen in the baby’s heart on an ultrasound exam. This is thought to represent mineralization, or small deposits of calcium, in the muscle of the heart. EIFs are found in about 3-5% of normal pregnancies and cause no health problems.If an echogenic intracardiac focus is found on routine ultrasound then a targeted level II sonogram should be performed to identify additional markers of any other congenital disease.Since you are age wise not in the risk category,if level 2 scan reveals nothing else, you will have to get serial monitoring.Take care.
