Enlarged Lump On Neck, Swollen Lymph Node, Sore To Touch, Started Menstrual Cycle. Treatment?

I have an enlarged lump on the right side of my neck . It is closer to my collar bone than my ear and toward the back of my neck. I always have a small lump there.. not usually noticeable. The doctor has told me that it is a lymph node and nothing to worry about. However, over the last few days it has gotten much larger and is sore to the touch. I don t really have symptoms of infection, but I did start my mentral cycle around the same time. I am about 6 days early, and I ve been under some atypical stress lately.

Hello,

Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

Swollen lymph nodes can be caused by an inflammation in the head and neck region. Most probable causes are dental caries and tonsillitis. You must consult an ENT doctor to identify the source of infection

Hi dear thanks for question on HCM,first let me clear you that your menstrual period has nothing to do with this swelling.the site lymph node you described looks to be in posterior triangle of neck.and lymph node enlargement here are usually due to tuberculosis, since it has enlarged in size and painful to touch ,it means it has got infected,it is advisable for you to take a course of antibiotic for a week, like leofloxicin and if it get resolved ,ok if not go for FNAC that is fine needle aspiration cytology of this lymph node that will establish the diagnosis ,whether tubercular or nonspecific.
