Epilepsy In Pregnancy, Please Suggest
My daughter has epilepsy and was on tegretol. she had been seizure free for over a year prior to becoming pregnant. she is now 25 weeks pregnant and in hospital due to severe seizures .doctors tried increasing dosage then introduced a new medication gardually reducing the tegretol this seemed to be working for a week or so now she is having seizures every day some lasting as long as 12 mins. they are having to give her something to bring her out of the seizure. we are extremely worried

pregnancy is a state where in certain harmones, blood etc in the body gets altered and so does the threshhold in the brain. In pregnancy you have to be careful to make sure the the pregnant lady is not allowed to be on her own as due to seizured she can have a fall etc. Watch her. Continue the medications. Avoid stress. Her seizures have high chances of reduction after parturition. Always make sure she does not bite her lips or tongue during an attack and maintain adequate airway. I hhope i have answered your query.
