Episode Of Rapid Afib, Sinus, High Cholesterol. What Is Going On?
Hi, never done this before but I suppose it's worth a shot. I am a 30 year old female and I just had an episode of rapid afib which landed me in the hospital. I converted to sinus overnight on IV cardizem. Cardiologist and follow up GP said they heard a slight murmot although echo looked perfect. All my bloodwork looks good except for slightly high cholesterol. Thyroid test normal. Passed a stress test without issue. This all happened a little less than 2 weeks ago. Went to a follow up with my GP today and she also mentioned that my reflexes are brisk...another thyroid sign but the test was normal. Any idea what's going on here? I also have a history of anxiety and take Zoloft daily.
Dear Ms. Angel
Thanks for writing to us.
Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) , as you currently have can be associated with many cardiac and non-cardiac conditions, which must be looked into as a part of work-up. If the work-up is negative then the condition is called "Lone AF". If your doctors have ruled out all the identifiable causes and you did not had alcohol prior to the night of episode, it may be "Lone AF" only. It has its own therapeutic strategies and implications.
A brisk reflex is a soft indicator for hyperthyroidism and yes can be there in anxious individuals. Since your blood test have shown normal thyroid functions, do not think much on this issue.
If there are remaining issues, you can see an Electrophysiologist and seek his advise.
Sincerely
sukhvinder singh
