Episodes Of Sudden Feeling Of Clogged Ears, Lightheadedness With Frequent Urination And Stools. Relief On Lying Down For Couple Of Hours. Which Specialist Should I Consult?

I have had the weird occurrence--it has become more frequent lately--of a sudden feeling of clogged ears, lightheadedness accompanied by frequent visits to the bathroom and loose stool . I had to lie down for a couple of hours and it went away. That was the lightest incident. On the previous occasions, on May 17, I felt a terrible weakness and violent nausea accompanying the above symptoms of clogged ears and lightheadedness. Then it took me several hours to recover. ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello!

From the symptoms you have described it fits into Meniere's disease. It is characterised by episodic giddiness, decreased hearing and tinnitus. These episodes vary in time, some may have it weekly some once a year. There are various triggering factors for this which you may find out and avoid. some of them are smoking, alcohol, chocolates, high salt diet etc..

There are no clear cut medications to prevent the disease. There are medications to reduce the symptoms.

1. Cut down completely on salt
2. Avoid smoking/alcohol

3. Meet ENT specialist who will determine the degree of hearing loss and treat accordingly with medications. You maybe asked to undergo audiometric evaluation and some tests to rule out other causes.

I hope you found my response to be helpful and informative. If you have any additional concerns I would be happy to address them.

Regards

Dr Divya
