Excessive Mucus In Throat. Diagnosed With Silent Reflux, Have Mucus Retention Cyst. Taking Dexilant. Recommendations?

I have excessive mucus in my throat. I have been to an ENT four times. Three times, he has ran the camera up my nostrils and told me "everything looked good". I also have had a CAT scan of my sinuses and throat which revealed a mucus retention cyst (12mm). he told me that was nothing to worry about. BUT, I have this mucus which NEVER goes away! I have been diagnosed with Silent Reflux and was put on Dexilant, which has not helped with the mucus. I have been on it for 6 months. I went today for a swallow test and, again, nothing!! I'm starting to feel like a medical mystery!! :(

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello

Thanks for writing to H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding excessive mucous in throat, though your CT scan revealed retention cyst, but most of the time this doesnot creat problem but if the size of cyst is quite large than operative intervention becomes necessary.

Here I am telling you the possible causes of excessive mucous in throat-

(a) Infections of salivary glands.

(b) Dental pathology and gingivitis.

(c) Pathology of base of tongue.

(d) Gastro esophageal reflux disease.

You may examine your self for above diseases I hope you will reach to clue for treatment.

Regards.
