Experiencing Abdominal Pain. Ruled Out Celiac, Appendix. Cause For Pain?
Hi I am enquiring about my 10 year old who woke crying last night with abdominal pain and pain in the lower right side, she was already admitted to hospital in May with something very similar but they found nothing even though she had been passing out and all, I am quite worried about her but they have ruled out celiac and appendix, what else should I be looking for do you think
Thanks for your query.Your 10 years old child have severe pain in abdomen and was admitted in the hospital and all the investigations turned out to be normal However she had a similar episode of pain now.I think this could be due to what is called as Meckl:s Diverticulitis. It is not uncommon to have a Meckl:s Divericulum in 0.2% of population which is just like Appendix and situated at the terminal Ilium and can not be traced out on Ultrasound examination. When this Divericulum gets inflamed presents with the similar symptoms like that of Appendicitis and majority of the times diagnosis is confirmed on Laprotomy. You can consult some Laproscopic surgeon and get his laproscopy done to confirm the diagnosis.rather than she getting repeated episodes of pain.
Dear madam, coeliac disease isnt actually the first thing to think about. Did she have some other symptoms such as diarrhea or vomiting? There are many causes of abdominal pain at this age but the most common are abdominal cramps, gastroenteritis, appendicitis, gastritis, intussusception, food allergies, pyelonephritis, Gynaecological, Referred pain.
If it already happened as you said than she should do detailed work up includin some of the imaging tests such as US or CT scan. You should check that there is no some particularly food that trigger this pain.
Wish you good health, Dr. Ivan Romich
