Experiencing Hypoxia And Breathing Problems After Lumbar Surgery. Have Hypertension And Sleep Apnea. Unable To Diagnose The Problem

I have been experiencing hypoxia about a year and a half since lumbar surgery. I am not a smoker, nor do I live in a house with smokers. I do have hypertension, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, DJD. I had not had any breathing problems until after my surgery. I have seen pulmonologists, neurologists and general practitioners. No one can seem to tell me what the problem may be. I have been on O2 at 2 liters since that time. Is there something that the doctors are missing?

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

I would suggest an ABG. what usually happens in a patient of OSA is that the person feels breathless, either due to hypoxia or hypercarbia. So it causes a problem. I would also suggest a echocardiography and ct scan of the chest to make sure there is nothing wrong with the cardio-pulmonary system.

I hope you are using the BiPAP machine for osa regularly and the settings of he machine are as per the pulmonologist's recommendations.

I would also suggest a complete hemogram to know your hemoglobin levels. anemia also causes a lot of breathlessness.

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
