Hallow Dear,
I am not finding in your history the site of your pain. I presume this pain to be in the lower abdomen.
This pain has started after the procedure of abortion. Then following are the possibilities:
1. May be as you have suspected, you have caught some infection. Usually these symptoms would start about 48 hours after the abortion. The pain would be associated with foul smelling
vaginal discharge. It would need antibiotics to control the infection. This infection could be secondary to the
incomplete abortion, which I am discussing below.
2. Incomplete abortion: In this condition, some products of conception are still remaining inside the uterus. In an attempt to expel them out, the uterus contracts vigorously giving rise to pain associated with bleeding. If the products are inside the
uterine cavity for some time, there is always a risk of infection.
Since you are having these symptoms for more than a week, it is most likely that whatever may be the cause, you could have superadded infection for which you do need some appropriate infection. If you are having foul smelling discharge, submitting it for culture and sensitivity will identify the causative organisms and the antibiotics to which they are sensitive. This will facilitate the selection of appropriate antibiotics.
Please submit yourself for
ultrasonography which will give visual evidence about the presence or absence of any products of conception. If they are present, you would need surgical procedure to evacuate the uterus; of course under antibiotics umbrella.
If this pain is not abdominal and is restricted to vagina and/or vulva, you could have caught fungal, bacterial or Trichomonal infection. Stinging pain is common after fungal and Trichomonal infection. The formal can be treated with antifungal medicines and later requires
Metronidazole for the treatment. All these cause white vaginal discharge. Fungal is flaky discharge, Trichomonal is greenish frothy discharge while bacterial is mucoid purulent discharge. Lactobacilli treatment with solutions like Lactacyd are very useful in such conditions.
Another possibility of stinging pain at the vulva is due to the infection of Bartholin's gland. Usually Bartholinitis is due to sexually transmitted infections like
Gonorrhoea or Chlamydia. Please get it confirmed from your Gynaecologist. If ignored, they may lead to
abscess formation. Suitable antibiotics can definitely cure these infections.
Please report to your Gynaecologist ASAP for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
