Fatigue, Increased Thirst After Tumor Removal From Parathyroid Surgery, Foot, Tendon Pain, Vision Problem. Solution ?

I had parathyroid surgery on May 23. One tumor was removed. My fatigue and thirst issues have improved greatly, however my reflux is still very bad (I am also very overweight). I also have foot pain and the tendon on my left heel is very sensitive and painful as well. Also, my vision has been affected. Before the surgery I only needed reading glasses, now I need glasses for TV and other activities too. I know these new symptoms seem very strange. My endocrinologist is baffled. Help!!!! Thanks. Hi,
It is true that many people actually feel worse after a parathyroid surgery than before it.Though small, parathyroids are the mainstay of calcium metabolism in the body.Calcium is the corner stone of musculoskeletal system.Parathyroids basically increase the calcium levels in the body by GI absorption, bone turnover etc. Atleast one normally working parathyroid is sufficient to carry out these functions.Post surgery there is a fall in calcium levels ,which is the reason for all the symptomology that you have provided.Vision may be affected due to involvement of the ocular muscles.Reduction of weight will go a long way in helping you feel better. In many cases these symptoms relieve with time.So don't worry, just ignore it and get on with life.

Endocrinologist Dr. Sridhar's  Response
You haven't mentioned about your weight and height. However your current problems not look like parathyroid surgery related. Foot pain and myalgic pain may due to overweight, vitamin D levels, calcium, phosphate levels to be checked to assess the successfulness of surgery.
