Fell So Low, Cannot Sleep, Work, Suggested Quetiapine And Escitalopram, Still Feeling Sad. Suggestion?

I'm a policeman, 51 years old. I had a girlfriend and we are together for 10 years. she is everything to me. Last september 2012 she suddenly decided to marry other guy without informing me of her move. She told me about her decision only after committing herself to the other party. I was so devastated, cannot sleep, cannot go to work, so low, everething. I consulted a psychiatrist and she prescribe me with quetiapine and escitalopram, after 3 months i stop taking escitalopram but continue taking quetiapine . Until now after 1 year although i able to eat i still feel low, so sad, still crying at night, fear of what will happen to me, everything. Is it normal ?

I keep on praying though.

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

You are grieving over the loss of your girlfriend and the end of the relationship. It has been over a year , and though it may be very difficult, it would be best to start slowly rebuilding your life.

Quetiapine is a atypical antipsychotic and it used in conditions such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Escitalopram is an antidepressant.

Based on your symptoms of persistent sadness, tearfulness, difficulty sleeping, it may be best to restart the antidepressant.
If you were unable to tolerate this particular antidepressant for some reason then another can be used.

You may also want to consider visiting a counsellor to help deal with your feelings.

I hope this helps
